Square also entertains thoughts of visiting a land But one inhabitant discovers the existence of a third physical dimension, enabling him to finally grasp the concept of a fourth dimension. Square and his adventures in Spaceland (three dimensions), Lineland (one dimension) and Pointland (no dimensions). Classic of science (and mathematical) fiction — charmingly illustrated by author — describes the journeys of A. Spaceland: A Novel of the Fourth Dimension (read 5/07) Recommended. Flatlanders live in only two dimensions. Flatland is less a novel and more of a mathematical-cum-philosophical treatise. But mathematicians and SF writers are interested in a more bizarre kind of fourth dimension—an actual direction of space or, more properly speaking, a direction in hyperspace. Rudy Rucker has also written a non-fiction book about the fourth dimension that might be of interest to you. Square, a resident of Flatland, and his adventures in Spaceland (three dimensions), Lineland (one dimension) and Pointland (no dimensions). Square, all citizens of a magical place first described by Edwin A. Charmingly illustrated by author. I am about to hit Spaceland by Rudy Rucker in my ever growing pile of books-I-meant-to-read-awhile-ago. I also describe an Einstein-Rosen bridge in my novel Realware, which is now in print as part of the four-volume The Ware Tetralogy, including Software, Wetware, Freeware, and Realware. One day, our square narrator is visited by a stranger from Spaceland, a world of three dimensions, much like ours. This is a very clever book though, masterfully worded to explain the nature of dimensions, to understand how shapes can see one another, and to give food for thought for us in the third dimension that there may just be a fourth dimension above us that we cannot see. Also see my novel SPACELAND, which is entirely about the fourth dimension. Joe Cube is a high-tech worker living in Silicon Valley who wants to develop a 3-D TV. Flatland by Edwin A Abbott: Classic of science (and mathematical) fiction. Abbott in his 1884 satirical novel Flatland, A Romance of Many Dimensions.
